if they were bothered about playing PS2 games, chances are they'd
already have a PS2, therefore not need to buy this new version.
theyre releasing this as a budget machine, just like they did when
they repacked the original Playstation. you could argue they already
tried this with the slim PS2, but that retailed for the same price as
the original model.

I saw a new stark white PS2 in Best Buy today. It came with Singstar
and 2 mics. I didn't see a price, but there were about a dozen of them
on a platform in the middle of the video game area. That stack was
absolutely dwarfed by the 3 dozen or so $400 PS3s right next to it and
the 2 dozen or so each of the Xbox 360 Arcade, Elite, Premium and Halo
edition... and the Premium ones clearly stated they had HDMI which was
pretty cool to see.
I would consider getting a $99 PS2, definitely. I'd try Kingdom Hearts
and God of War (both originals and sequels) for sure. Maybe SOCOM,
MGS3...

You sound like Gamespot in reverse.
Hey maybe you can make it a a reviewer afterall.
Either way 1 button combat wont appeal to a lot of people. So don't make it
out like I'm the minority here. Not that any of this matters because I just
got off the phone wit ha friend and he said this info isn't correct. Ubisoft
is giving you the option of one button combat but you don't have to play
that way. I hope he is right nad this information you posted was just lost
in translation.

Meaning the left mouse button for firing? Of course the left mouse
button doesn't put you in a combat stance or aim for you does it? Kinda
falls down there...

I read a while back that when parkouring around, you would control the
character's individual arms and legs. Please tell me that's no longer
the case...

Well... how would having 2 or 3 buttons change immersion? Unless I've
missed out on some cool new martial arts style where you kill people
with your thumbs, LOL...

Most FPS games actually have 2-button combat... weapons these days
always have a secondary firing mode...

Guitar Hero III is pretty cool. It's much more fun with 2 people than
1, though.
I tried the Rock Band demo in Best Buy today. Now *that's* fun. I've
always liked the drums and this is the closest I'm going to get to
playing drums.

people that are phsycially "tough" don't have the need to come into
newsgroups and be confrontational, mock others, call them names, etc. I've
never met one who did.
The only people that do that are ones who could never assume that sort of
authorative behavior in real life, so they have to pretend it behind servers
and networks where they know they'll never be called on it.

I don't have the need either. But I am not going to sit idly by while
some retard calls me a fanbitch or makes statements that are
completely untrue, or when someone pretends to get offended by my
choice of words. Perhaps you should go back and read the thread in
order to see who was the first to bring out the name-calling.
Thanks for the psychoanalysis. Your assumptions based on your personal
experiences hold about as much weight as the shit I just flushed down

I am with you on that. If HS had a little more depth to combat I would
like it better. I really dislike games where you can be surrounded by
fifty guys and come out alive from just spamming attack. It reminds me
a lot of Dynasty Warriors (certainly not a bad thing), except instead
of a bunch of characters you get five mixed into one. Co-op would be a
blast though...

I didn't say "casual gamer," I said "more casual gamer." Casual gamers
- the ones who play Tetris and the like or just want a party machine -
will buy the Wii.
By "more casual gamer," I mean a person who plays typical video games
but just not as hardcore and crazy as others. Most of my friends are
casual gamers - they still play games like Gears of War or SOCOM but
they're not on there every single day playing hours on end... and they
wouldn't touch something like Ninja Gaiden with a 10-foot pole.

If you own a 1080p television, you're in a very small minority of HD
television owners.
Most are 720p and a few are 1080i, but hardly anyone is at 1080p
according to HD TV sales figures.
A $100 720p/1080i player is going to be very attractive to the vast
majority of HD TV owners, especially considering Walmart is also
selling HD DVDs at $15.
> I want a dual player stand alone unit myself.
So would I, but until they come down to my price range for one, a $100
player will be just fine.

more thant twice as many in US, 4 times as many in Europe, and 9 times as
many in Japan based on the reports I've read.
Any way you cut it that's bad for HD-DVD. They'll need to throw some more $
at Warner if they want to win because trying to win a fair fight just isn't
working for them (though they already threw a couple of low blows with the
Paramount $ exchange).

>From January to September 2007, the sales rate of Blu-Ray discs in the
United States was 185% of the sales rate of HD-DVD discs according to
Home Media Magazine.
I don't know if this publication can be viewed as the end-all, be-all
like NPD is, but I would be surprised if the numbers for Blu-Ray were
off by 200,000 or more.

When was it ever a fair fight? Sony incorporated the Blu-Ray player
into the Playstation 3 for the purpose of having a Trojan horse into
consumers' homes. The whole "games need Blu-Ray" is just corporate
bullshit, legitimate in the future or not.
If you look at set top to set top numbers in the United States, HD-DVD
is slightly ahead. Movie sales became noticeably skewed at the
beginning of the year once the Playstation 3s were out in the wild.
Before that, sales actually favored HD-DVD slightly.
HD-DVD can't cry about it - all's fair, after all. However, I find it
hilarious when people try to say that HD-DVD throwing money at
Paramount to go exclusive is somehow morally wrong or unfair without
saying the same about Sony forcing many PS3 gamers to become default
Blu-Ray owners.
But in the end, it's all business, and both sides seem willing to go
far to get any advantage they can. It's ridiculous and we as consumers
lose out, but hey, when did those big corporations ever care about the
consumers?

Seems to me we are just going around in circles here. You go play your
arcade PES2008 game and I'll go play my simulation of Fifa08. OK?
