While your criteria does need to be considered when talking about
current attach rates, the fact that the Xbox 360 had an attach rate of
3.9 games per console in the United States during its launch window
also needs to be considered in the age-to-age comparison you find more
fair and telling. The Playstation 3 never achieved that high an attach
rate despite matching the hardware sales rate in the first year.

To be fair, nobody has continued to claim, following the release of
Ratchet and Clank, that the Playstation 3 has no good exclusives.

How could Eye of Judgment have gotten a great review?
Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and Folklore got decent reviews, but your
statement is disingenuous if you only reference the sources that gave
them really good reviews and ignore the sources that gave them less
than stellar reviews.
The Metacritic aggregates for these games don't indicate AAA titles,
although to be fair, you didn't claim they were AAA titles in this
thread.
I'm kind of surprised you didn't mention Resistance since it scored
higher than those 3 already-released titles.

Yes because the 360 was the first of new gen and there was nothing else
around at the time to compete with it, so people jumped all over it when
it came out. Plus because it was and still is cheap to buy, people have
got more spare cash to buy the games afterwards

The games attach rate of the consoles is going to be a better way to
compare the two because it takes the console's retail age out of the
equation.

Oh please what? Like I said, with the exception of Ratchet & Klank,
all those titles received mediocre scores.

In fairness the installed base for the X360 in the US is much higher
than the PS3's. In any event, I was one of those 97,000 people who
bought it and couldn't be more satisfied. The game is great fun.

It's on my list, but I bought GH3 this week and getting COD4 next week, so
not sure when I'll be able to pick it up. I may ask for it for christmas.
I still want the Simpsons, possibly Rock Band, possibly Assasins Creed, etc.
There are a lot of good games coming out

EA and Epic had development kits well before June of 2005. They were
already showing demos at E3 that were built using the dev kits they
received. Dev kits were in developers' hands as early as April of
2005. Granted, not everybody had them, but the big companies did.
In either case, developers didn't have these kits "for years" as the
previous poster claimed.

I might rent it soon but I definitely won't be buying it anytime soon.
I ended my moratorium on console games but I'm still holding back
because I can't spend the way I used to with a kid now. I bought
Guitar Hero III with the guitar yesterday and I probably won't buy
another game until Rock Band, after which I probably won't buy another
game until 2008 (unless I give in to my temptation to get the
Collector's Edition of Mass Effect).

It looks like Second Life (albeit with better graphics). Sony's
description of it sounds just like Second Life (with a much more
limited world, of course). Journalists and the like who have seen it
liken it to Second Life.
If there were no Second Life, this could be a big hit because you'd
have all those geeks who are now playing Second Life jumping on that
instead.
The fact that there already is a Second Life makes it harder for this
thing to be really successful because people who are going to be
interested in playing something like Second Life, Playstation 3 fans
or not, are probably already playing that already and won't want to
divert time from their alternate reality to hop on a more limited and
specialized version of it.
What I'm hoping Sony does is provide a plain vanilla online interface
for people who simply want to set up online games or do simple
chatting so they don't have to jump through hoops to do it. I haven't
read anywhere that Sony is planning on anything but the virtual world,
which means that players will have to walk around this virtual world
just to do things they should be able to do in a matter of seconds.
That's the biggest problem with this. I think it's wrong to say that
this Home project on its own is going to be bad. I'm not really
interested and many people won't be, but the success of Second Life
proves that the idea is viable. The problems come when you consider
that gamers are pretty much forced to interact with this even if
they're just trying to watch a trailer.
So...
Does anybody know if Sony has announced that the Playstation Network
as it exists is still going to be around and Second Life Lite will
just be another way to get online... or is Home going to just replace
what PS3 gamers have now? If the former, it's not that bad a thing,
personal opinions aside.

And Halo3 shatters anything that BC did in any time frame, that as it simply
did just in the US, yet you won't relate that this is a big thing
considering BC did its sales totals from a worldwide release. Discounting
the fact that H3 wasn't a WW release doesn't make it not shatter what BC
did. You know had it been released the same way, that the sales numbers
would have been substantially higher.

So, it still did 3.1 million its first month, whether or not it sold
2,999,999 copies its first two weeks is irrelevant to the 3.1mil total that
is mentioned.

I wasn't talking about "all sales records", just your comparison to BC when
you specified that game.
Anyway, wouldn't selling more mean that it breaks records in this instance,
you don't make sense?

Well, you are now saying BC shattered a record, and did most of its numbers
in two weeks, yet Halo3 sold more just in the US in one week, as I already
have shown you; make up your mind what shattered means to you.

OK forget Wow, but the fact that it sold 9 million copies is nothing to
sneeze at, anyway--------

Barely surpassed? LOL, I showed you their respective monthly time frames for
both H3 and BC, again, H3 sold 3.3 million its first week in just the US, it
did 5.5mil its first month, WW. It took one month for BC to do 3.1 million,
WW. At what threshold does "shattered" apply to you?

FIFA08's shit. Admit it, PES is just too hard and difficult for you.
Real men play PES, little doggies play FIFA. Now, that's the truth.

My apologies if this was already posted. I just read it a few moments
ago.
If Warner were to become a Blu-Ray exclusive studio, that would pretty
much seal the deal because Warner is by far the biggest next-gen
format releaser of all the studios and has an excellent portfolio of
titles.

I would agree about that. Warner being exclusive on Blu-Ray would weaken
HD-DVD considerably. I still love movies from Universal and Paramount
studios though.

I'm pretty sure I have favorite movies from all the different studios.
On the Blu-Ray side, it's hard to ignore the Spider-man movies, the
Terminator movies, the soon-to-be-released Aliens films, anything from
Disney, and other similar major titles.
Whether any specific person likes them or not, they're still going to
be huge movies that will sell well, relative to the size of the
market.
Once those dual-format players hit reasonable pricing levels, this
whole format war will be irrelevant.

But I just don't see the big deal in having the falcon mobo with the
65nm fab CPU, even if it has those new heatsinks in them now. The
problem is, it's just the CPU in the 65nm fab form, not the GPU as
well and the GPU is the main culprit for all the RROD/overheating
problems associated with the 360.
I doubt if the RROD/overheating problems will significantly reduce
because of the new mobo, the new heatsink and the 65nm CPU. I'm
waiting until the 360s start coming out with the 65nm GPU in them,
which supposedly will be about this time next year.
In the meantime, I'll just have to hope that the new console I got
back from M$ will last me that long. I doubt it though. I'll
probably end up sending it in for another replacement before that.

Yes, it's my understanding that lot #0734 or later will include the
newer chip-set. The manufacturing date should be 8/24/07 or later.

If you're in the market to buy one, try to get one with a lot number
of 0734 or higher (or manufactured date 8/24/07 or newer). They should
have the cooler chip-set in them. The lot number printed on a white
sticker found on the left side of the boxes.

Ethernet is Ethernet. No drivers are required.

Uncharted isn't even out yet, so it's all just down to "my unreleased
product is going to blow away the competition and redefine gaming"
hype. We only see this for a few dozen titles each year, minimal.

Oh dear lord, I am so sorry to hear about that.
To make up for the emptiness you feel inside over wasting that time in
your life, you need to look forward to DST and get TWO good titles
next week!
You'll feel better :)

Well I personally don't like the series, but apparantly a lot of people due,
hence the good reviews and the large sales. Same is true for Halo (I liked
the first one, never even finished the second one). So while i personally
am not enthusiastic about those titles, I understand that a lot of people
are.
