And what's free shipping? I tested and wanted to buy 3 box sets, but
shipping was almost as much as the items. That's free for you. And not too
sure, they have Star Trek original series box 1-3 and list them in one item,
if USD 25 or whatever it was is the right price, that's cheap and I expect
poor quality. Don't know if I want to order. Anybody got anything from
there? Is it cheap burned DVD's or pressed ones?

It certainly was easier with mouse/keyboard (it can literally be
beaten on legendary difficulty without dying - in single
player(headshotheadshotheadshot)), but I certainly scoff at saying the
PC version was 'better'. It is pretty much exactly the same with
different controls, except if I am remembering correctly the PC
version has no co-op campaign, making it not worthwhile in the
slightest.

The Xbox/PS2 versions had no co-op either, they were both single
player only games.

He's talking about co-op Halo not co-op Splinter Cell. The PC version
of Halo offered no co-op mode. My guess is because the console version
only had it locally via split screen and that would be almost
impossible to do on a PC monitor. Certainly impossible with a single
keyboard and mouse.

Can't help seeing it in context either. I think Halo was superb as a
*console* FPS, but when you compare it against the high quality FPS
games already on PC by the time the port came out it seems rather mundane.

That would certainly be the case with the 360 and the Wii, but not as
much with the first Xbox. The homebrew titles Xbox Media Center
(XBMC) and Gentoox (Linux on the Xbox) were both the main reasons for
me to mod my own. I waited until those apps were released before
buying an Xbox, with full intentions on modding it, with 3 retail
games. And over two dozen legal commercial games were purchased in
the years afterwards -- the only games I really played on it.

The high score is PC Gamer (a print magazine), and you know how early
they'd have had to have a copy of the game to have a review that
quickly? I seriously doubt they had a story copy to base it on (or the
post-release servers.)
GameSpy gave it 3 of 5, and IGN's first take is none too positive.

Agreed. They didn't become widely available until this year and the
mass market priced machines are all 720p.
Although the prices are coming down. My 56" 1080p set was priced at
$2099 and was supposed to come with a free $200 video camera. When
Circuit City couldn't provide enough cameras they just took $200 off
the price making it $1899.
I'm thinking about picking up a 720p set for Mom for Christmas and am
finding them in the $600 to $750 range.

Yeah, the prices on those are ridiculous. In this Walmart ad alone
they were selling a 50 inch Sony Plasma for under a grand. That's the
beauty of new tech becoming affordable to the masses, it makes the
older stuff dirt cheap and available to everyone.
But the best part about it is that it means a lot more people will be
getting HD in some form ot the other in their homes, and that media
companies can finally start to feel safe about releasing all their
products in a high definition format. The way it was meant to be.

Sanyo.
Didn't look too bad from the one I saw running. $1000 is pretty
darned good for a 50" plasma, but I'd still go Panny for ~$1500 over
this one.
Me, I just bought the $100 player.

This thread, and indeed all the anticipatory buzz about AC, puzzles
me. You know AC is being made by the same team that did Prince of
Persia. AC is obviously derived from that series. The Two Thrones
featured the speed kill system and chariot riding. Then of course
there's the Arabian theme and the familiar platforming element. So why
is everyone acting like the game's concepts are mysterious? It's
obviously just the next PoP game, with a new character and plot. I am
99% certain that the combat system in AC is exactly the same as in the
PoP series, minus time reversal. If you liked the combat system in
those games, you'll like AC. If not, then you won't. Am I the only
person here who actually played The Two Thrones?

Well, they're not removing it completely, they're putting backward
compatibility on par with the XBox 360, but yah.
>If cost really was a big deal to Sony, why didn't they nix the Wifi?
According to the a teardown of the PlayStation 3 back when it was
released the WiFi module was estimated to cost Sony $15.50, while the
cost of the PS2 chips (EE and GS) were estimated at $27. If Sony is
able to competively source the WiFi components (eg. the drivers are in
the PS3's flash ROM rather than the PS3 game disks), then they would
have more leverage to get the price of the WiFi components reduced than
the PS2 components.

Not necessarily. I was a potential consumer when I made my decision and it
wasn't based on exclusives at all. It was based on blu-ray capabilities,
free online play, the fact I could play my PS2 games on it (of which I had
more of around than xbox), the system seemed more powerful and thus future
proof, MS just dumped support of my xbox *completely* after 4 years so I had
no confidence they wouldn't do the same 4 years later again, etc. For me
it was worth the extra money for all of the above. Exclusives actually had
zero bearing on my decision as I knew games would come for whichever system
I chose (and there will always be some game on one that I wish I had that
isn't available on mine, whichever way i went).
I'm not saying I'm indicitive of most consumers, but my point is that
exclusivity counts, but there are a lot of other factors as well.
In fact, joe sixpack has probably limited interest in exclusives, or even
what games are exclusive to a particular console. They go to buy a gaming
system and see the game section and see a lot of games they want and they
have no idea if the 360 has it or the WII. As long as that game section is
large and filled with things their interest is peaked.
My point is, for me to keep reading "there are no games" always makes me say
"WHAT?" since I'm playing *something*...if it's not games then I'm really
confused.
Games like Call of Duty 4, Grand Theft Auto IV, Madden,

True, if games were the only part of the equation. You have to factor
things like blue-ray, free online play, etc. Those are decision points
whether they matter to you personally or not. For a lot of people (myself
included) the price disadvantage was made up for with the other things (not
to mention I found the price disadvantage moot since if you own the console
for 4 years that's $200 in online fees you would pay for the 360, which
suddenly puts them both in the same pricing bracket in my case)
