Is that true even if you didn't own the 360? Because there are a lot of
good non-exclusives available (oblivion, GH, etc.)

It's pretty amazing what killing a product line and introducing an
inferior one will do for product sales.

Sony Phasing Out 60GB PS3 in Europe
By Tom Ivan
Sony will discontinue the 60GB PlayStation 3 in Europe leaving only
the 40GB model on the market, although SCEE has told Next-Gen that
it's not ruling out new PS3 models in the future.
The news follows Sony's announcement on Friday that it will be
introducing a new entry-level 40GB PS3 in Europe, while slashing the
cost of the existing 60GB model.
The 60GB Starter pack will remain on sale in the SCEE region only
while stock last, Sony has said. Thereafter the 40GB model will be the
only SKU on the market. Sony explained the decision to discontinue the
60GB PS3 in a statement emailed to Next-Gen:
"The specification of the 40GB model represents the ideal trade off
between price and capability at this stage of the lifecycle. It
retains all the key High Definition features that make PS3 such an
impressive gaming and entertainment system, whilst allowing users to
add or enhance features with readily accessible aftermarket
accessories. It is also exceptional value for money.
"Whilst we do not rule out introducing alternative specification
models in the future we believe that the 40Gb model meets the needs of
consumers in the SCEE territories at the current time."
Sony is currently phasing out the 60GB model Stateside. Once all
remaining stock is cleared from retailers, the only model left will be
the 80GB PS3 which sells for $599. However, rumors continue to suggest
that the 40GB PS3 will see a North American release. While SCEA has
kept mum on the subject, a recent Hollywood Reporter article touts
November 2 as the 40GB console's planned US launch date.

What an idiot you are.
They are selling because they have come down to a price people think is
good.
Oh and a lot of places in the US are saying pre orders for the 40gb
version sold out.

Actually, the 80GB PS3 is $499 and the 40GB is $399 in the US

You're just jealous because I made a hefty profit on my Microsoft stock this
week.
Microsoft Gets Its Groove Back
Investors seem to be warming up again to Microsoft.
The software maker rose $1.24, or $3.5%, to $36.81 on Wednesday. There was
no major news out of Redmond, Wash., but the Street has been gaining
confidence in Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) since the company
released stellar quarterly results last week.

There's only one reason any game needs Blu-Ray... it's being made by a
developer owned by Sony.

Developers say thinks to big up their games.
The days are gone when talented programmers had to get the best out of
the 1k of memory on the good old Z80, or the 3.5k on the Vic 20.
Nowadays it's all bloatware; I do understand it would take years, and
years to program today's games in machine code. :)
It was said that Gears of War couldn't be done on the PS3, does anyone
really believe this?

I bought the d-link xtreme n router and plugged my 360 directly into
it (put the cable modem and router on top of my entertainment
center.) I then used the xtreme n desktop adapter on my mce pc that
is in my den. I didn't need to buy the wireless adapter for the 360
(which is only at g speeds anyway) and I'm able to stream HD from the
MCE without issues. It's pretty sweet.
However, my MCE and my router are only about 20 ft apart and there's
only two walls in between so my connection speed is around 100 Mbps.
Your results will vary depending on your placement of devices. Also,
I need to use a laptop that is directly connected to the router for
firmware updates and such, so my setup might not be ideal for
everyone.

you can use any wireless router, but you really need the microsoft wireless
adapter, becasue 360 does not have any drivers.

nonsence. I have been using an SMC wireless adapter since the original

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion, but when you try to
make sweeping declarations about these games as if your opinion
actually mattered to anybody but yourself, you only look foolish since
the critics, whose word most consumers will take with more validity
than yours (if they even ever read your posts) all disagree.

I'm trying to decide myself. I only played the first two levels in
Halo 3 and I played about 15 minutes of Heavenly Sword.
On the one hand, Heavenly Sword felt to me not much different than
other hack-and-slashers I've played.
On the other hand, Halo 3 didn't capture me the same way the previous
2 games did. It was fun playing with my buddy, but playing through the
levels myself wasn't nearly as interesting.

What a hypocritical statement. Calling HS a POS without any

Actually most of those got pretty mediocre reviews.
Warhawk was the only one to even crack an average over 80% on
metacritic.

If you want to get technical, Ratchet and Clank is a flagship, mascot,
brand name title for the Playstation 3. Ace Combat is none of those
things for the Xbox 360... it's a throaway game that only appeals to a
small portion of Xbox 360 gamers (and gamers in general for that
matter).
The original poster opened the door by using Ace Comba as a
comparison, but the comparison that should be used is one of the more
popular games for the Xbox 360, something really associated with the
Xbox 360, like Gears of War or Halo 3.

Sony allowed retailers to sell early.

Oh fucking please! Heavenly Sword is an 8.1 on Gamerankings and 7.9 on Meta
(averages out and Meta uses a funky translating scoring system when
converting an alphabet scoring system to a numeric). Ratchet & Clank is 9.0
on Meta and Gamerankings.

Moot point, because it wasn't, and it wouldn't have mattered anyways
because Halo is mostly an American thing. The fact that you bring up
Halo3 being 6 million to date, and BC sales not changing since January
really shows how much it sold in the first month.
I was saying I can't imagine why you think PC games are cheaper. BC
was $59.99, just like most other new games.

All of this means nothing. We aren't talking about what WOULD have
happened had H3 been released worldwide, we are talking about two
games and how much they sold.
> BC had 3.1 million it's first month, yet Halo3 did over 3.3 million it's

The 3.1 million of BC was mostly in the first two weeks. We are not
talking about what sold more, just saying Halo 3 shattered all sales
records known to man is completely untrue. I wouldn't say H3 shattered
any records. BC shattered a record, and then H3 broke that.

We are talking about SALES RECORDS. The only SALES RECORDS that H3
would take is how fast it sold in it's first month. WoW cannot compete
with that, because it took WoW a while to catch on. The expansion
however, did set sales records that Halo 3 barely surpassed, which is
what we are talking about.
